Now that we had come to end of PSLE, this marks the end of the 6 years of primary education.
It’s time for a massive spring cleaning to prepare for the new secondary school life!
What are the things to clear and what are the things to keep?
To Clear
These are things that are no longer needed and serve no continuity in value in secondary school.
assessment books, done, or undone.
Practice papers, done or undone.
Textbooks/workbooks
School worksheets/ school maths files
Recycle! Not just dispose!
Of course when I mentioned to dispose them, recycle them. These are ultimately still paper and books materials which are perfect for recycling. Please don’t chuck it down the garbage chute. It will choke up the refuse chute and they are easily flammable.
Donating?
Not recommended. Syllabus may change, and half completed materials denies the receivers of the materials from the learning experiences that your child experienced it.
To Keep
There seems to be a lot of things to clear out, and indeed it is. But there are also things that can be kept and reused.
Mildly used and good condition textbooks
- For younger siblings only if you are sure they are using the same materials. Verify the exact publisher of the materials the siblings are using. If they don’t match, or the syllabus has changed, these materials are better off being recycled.
Notes on specific topics
This is pertaining to Maths. There’s some topics that are continued in Sec 1 that is being covered in P6. So if your child had done up nicely their own set of notes, it can be kept and used for references next year. Just well curated notes, nothing else. Here are the topics to keep.
Number Patterns
Ratio
Speed
Properties of Angles, Triangles and Quadrilaterals
MathSifu Masterplan (if you have it in hard copy)
- This Masterplan is meant to serve as a general problem-solving framework, and it still applies in secondary schools. If you have it printed for use in PSLE, you can continue to keep it.
That’s it for now. Get moving and clear whatever that is needed. I’ll share more next time!
Cheers!
